Referral and Screening

TraumaResource is a solo clinical and consulting practice well integrated into the community of mental health and social services within the San Francisco Bay Area, particularly the South Bay Area.   If  I cannot provide direct services myself, I will find you someone who can.  If you are moving out of state, please let me know and I may still be able to provide you with help in your destination city or region.

Direct Clinical Services

My clinical services include help for the full range of mental and emotional problems which most often include: depression, anxiety, bipolar illness and drug and alcohol problems.  I have special expertise in the recovery from emotionally traumatic events:  physical and sexual assault, return from combat or military duty, and sudden family losses and disability due to disaster, illness or crime.  I have an interest in helping both women and men in recovery from cancer and other life-threatening illnesses.   Sometimes I am asked to provide assessment, consultation or psychotherapy for elders in the family, who may be facing problems of memory, disorientation, early dementia or difficulties with independent living.  I serve adults of all ages as well as adolescents as young as 12 years of age.  I do not provide childhood services but can make appropriate local or regional referrals.  I am able to provide intensive therapy when the need arises (i.e, longer-than-average sessions, emergency sessions, and multiple sessions per week) because I intentionally keep my clinical caseload small.

Forensic Services

TraumaResource provides expert consultation and diagnostic testing for attorneys and the courts in both criminal and civil litigation.  Forensic services include: competency to stand trial, intellectual ability, in-custody mental status, psychological issues during the sentencing phase and capital defense.  My areas of expertise--war veterans, trauma and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), ethnic minority survivors of trauma and the interactions between addictions and trauma--often have specific relevance in personal injury, employment (sexual harassment and wrongful termination), sexual trauma victims and perpetrators, and in criminal defense in general.  I personally provide expert testimony regarding PTSD, dissociation and standards of care (relevant to malpractice cases). Here again, if I am unable to meet the needs of the case, I maintain an active database of world-class experts in the area of traumatic stress and related psychiatric consequences to whom I can refer.
