Francis Abueg, Ph.D.
Dr. Francis Abueg, the founder and owner of TraumaResource, is a clinical psychologist who has been working in the area of mental health for over 20 years. Formerly Associate Director for Research at the National Center for Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) at the VA Palo Alto/Menlo Park, he conducted research with and provided direct clinical care to combat survivors for more than 12 years. He has published numerous articles, book chapters and edited books and served as a faculty member at Stanford Medical School (clinical faculty in Psychiatry), California School of Professional Psychology (now Alliant University), Pacific Graduate School of Psychology in Palo Alto, and the California Institute of Integral Studies in San Francisco. He conducts seminars for fellow clinicians and agencies both nationally and internationally in the areas of traumatic stress, ethnic minority survivors of trauma, sociomoral aspects of trauma, and cognitive behavioral therapy for clients with the dual diagnosis of PTSD and addiction.
Licensure & Special Achievements
Dr. Abueg (pronounced uh-BWEG) is licensed to practice psychology in the State of California (PSY 11960). In 1991, he testified before the US Congress before the Veterans Affairs Committee regarding the needs of ethnic minority Vietnam veterans. He co-founded the first PTSD-substance abuse dual diagnosis inpatient treatment program in the Veteran Affairs Healthcare System, which led to the development of more than 40 specialized dual diagnosis clinics around the country. He has served as a clinical volunteer in five federally declared disasters in the US, has consulted to the State of Oklahoma after the bombing of the Murrah Building, and collaborated with clinicians and researchers after the US Embassy Bombings in Nairobi, Kenya.
Dr. Abueg is a Board Certified Expert in Traumatic Stress and has received Diplomate Status in the American Academy of Experts in Traumatic Stress.
